Bacteria-bound sand: how ETH Zurich's biocement works and where it falls short

ETH Zurich can 3D-print and robotically spray sand into solid parts using Sporosarcina pasteurii, with no kiln. Strength is mortar-like at about 0.5–2.2 MPa, and ammonium waste is unresolved.
